DIN-rail mountable PC with CANopen interface

Published 2012-01-30

The CX9020 embedded PC by Beckhoff (Germany) is equipped with the 1-GHz ARM Cortex A8 micro-controller. Besides the Ethercat interface, it provides optionally CANopen or DeviceNet connectivity.

THE DIN RAIL-MOUNTABLE CONTROLLER COMES with microSD card and is suitable for outdoor applications including wind turbine and solar power plants.  The operating temperature ranges from -25°C to +60°C. The embedded PC integrates a direct I/O interface for Beckhoff’s I/O systems. It automatically detects the connected Bus Terminals (K-bus) or Ethercat Terminals (E-bus). The internal DDR3 memory features a 1GiB-capacity. In addition, 128 KiB of NOVRAM are available for data storage in the event of a power failure.

The basic version features two 10/100-Mbit/s Ethernet ports (internal switch), four USB 2.0 connections and a DVI-D interface.

In contrast to the existing ARM-9 architecture, the ARM Cortex-A8 processor has a hardware-based floating-point unit. This makes floating-point operations (REAL, LREAL) faster, so that the CX9020 is also suitable for motion control applications. In combination with the TwinCAT automation software platform, the embedded PC becomes a high-performance PLC and motion host-controller that can be used with or without visualization. The used operating system is Microsoft’s Windows Embedded Compact 7.
