The modular EC1000 control system by Berghof (Germany) comprises a host controller module powered by a 400-MHz PowerPC micro-controller running the Codesys PLC software from 3S Software. The PLC software compliant to IEC 61131-3 is available in version 3.4 and 2.3. This module is backboned via Ethercat to the local I/O modules. In addition, the host controller features CANopen connectivity for price-sensitive extension devices. This interface supports bit-rates up to 1 Mbit/s. The CAN termination resistor is located in the plug-in connector.
HIGH-SPEED MOTION CONTROLLER from third parties can be connected to the Ethercat backbone network. According to the supplier, the first customer will only make use of the CANopen interface. The host controller is part of the CANtrol EC system family comprising also a braod range of digital and analog I/O modules as well as motion controllers. It features 64 MiB of on-board flash memory and an 128-MiB RAM capacity. The dimension of the host module is 25 mm x 120 mm x 90 mm. It operates in the temperature range from 0 °C to 55 °C, and is powered by 24 V (DC).
The host controller provides an Ethernet interface for display units directly supported by the Codesys Visu software. The terminal-server concept via Ethernet offers ways of keeping software available centrally. All the visualization masks are part of the PLC program. The Ethernet-connected display unit just accesses the visualization software and is therefore managed without a second tool, or lists of variables.
Besides control applications, the controller is also suitable for data monitoring purposes. Files that were recorded in the CSV format can be stored, evaluated or graphically represented. They can be passed on for further processing via the FTP protocol, by web interface or via the USB port. An SD card can be used alternatively. Optionally, the host controller is available with Profinet and Bacnet protocols.
