Joint stand shows range of CAN

This year, CiA and eight of its members have a joint stand at Bauma. Together, these companies show the whole range of developments in the world of CAN for construction and mining machines.

Vector shows version 9.0 of its development, simulation, and test tool CANoe and its CANalyzer analysis tool. The tools both have a completely restructured operating concept. Ribbons and tabs sorted by application area improve the usability and a quick access toolbar gives access to frequently used features. Windows and (important) dialogs can be inserted in a favorites list for faster access. The tools support Autosar System Description 4.2 with database formats for CAN FD and Ethernet, additionally to CAN and Flexray. The newly developed Interactive Generator also supports CAN and CAN FD.

Last year, CSM and Vector agreed to work together. Vector acquired 24,8% of CSM. The companies hope that users of measurement technology in automotive and commercial vehicle development benefit from a closely coordinated complete solution for software and hardware products. To achieve this, Vector and CSM work closely together at the CiA booth and erected their stands next to each other. With vMeasure CSM, they demonstrate the possible teamwork between measurement technology and monitoring software. VMeasure CSM, developed by Vector, is a software tool for the acquisition and analysis of measurement data that can be used in combination with all CAN- and Ethercat-based CSM measurement modules, including configuration.

DIS Sensors has entered the final stage of getting its QG-series inclination and acceleration sensors certified for SIL CL 2/PLd. This makes the sensors suitable for safety applications especially for the building machinery market. At the fair, DIS Sensors explains all about its CANopen Safety (EN 50325-5) sensors and all its other sensors.

3S-Smart Software presents Codesys products live. The tool for configuration and evaluation tackles a range of mobile machine variants and can be used for the configuration of CANopen and/or J1939 modules, so no other tools are necessary. Even user interfaces for diagnostics and operation can be developed, which run on built-in displays or HTML5 web browsers depending on the control device used.

The b-CAN-Cube-Mini by B-Plus is a controller especially designed for the application in mobile machines. Apart from the application as a stand-alone, C-programmable controller, it can also be used as a generic CANopen Slave I/O module (CiA 401). To benefit from the decentralized control structure, it is also possible to use it as J1939-Slave for processing the in- and outputs over parametrizable CAN messages. The 11 multifunctional in- and outputs offer the required flexibility for reacting to machine requirements. Apart from the evaluation of digital and analog signals, for example current and resistance measurement, all outputs can take loads up to 4 A. The controller comes with ECE-R10 regulation, protection class IP54, and an operating temperature range from -40 °C up to +85 °C.

Kvaser shows the PCI-E-CAN 4xHS, its fastest PCI-Express-to-CAN-interface card so far. Adding four CAN channels to any computer board with PCI Express capability, this card features an in-house developed CAN-controller. The company also presents a Bit Timing Calculator for CAN FD. The calculator is used to calculate all possible sets of CAN parameters for a given input frequency and a given bus speed. It is available on the Kvaser homepage.

Micro Control shows technology that is already working in machines and vehicles in construction and mining. All of the company’s components are available in casings that are resistant to dust, vibration, and shock and withstand temperatures from -40 °C to +85 °C. Possible usages are temperature acquisition of hydraulic oil or motor temperature and length, force, and wind load measurement.

Wachendorff presents encoders and solutions for determining angles, distances, speeds, lengths, and positions. The emphasis is on sensors with the CANopen, J1939 and EIA-485 protocols. Wachendorff encoders are compact and light. Application-specific protection classes, a broad temperature range, vibration and shock resistance, precise resolution and accuracy, high bearing loads, and immunity to magnetic influences aim to guarantee durability and maximum service life.
