About 1 700 exhibitors, from start-ups to global players, were part of the exhibition to cover all aspects of industrial automation – from simple sensors to intelligent digital solutions. In 16 halls over 70 000 visitors from all over the world were able to get to know new developments in the automation sector. Since automation and CAN belong to each other, it was no surprise that CAN was a hot topic and could be found almost everywhere. However, several developments were not new or the CAN Newsletter already reported about them. But this link gives you an overview of the latest CAN-related products we found at the fair. The articles are marked with SPS IPC Drives 2017 in its kickers.

From November 28 to November 30, CAN in Automation demonstrated a CANopen FD network at its booth in Nuremberg (Germany). Products implementing a CANopen FD protocol stack by Emtas, ESD, HMS, and Microcontrol communicated with 2 Mbit/s and the new USDO protocol large amount of data faster than in classic CANopen. The CANopen FD specification, CiA 1301, was released in September this year. CiA showed also several CANopen products from its members.
