The Colegio de Ingenieros de Chile celebrates its 60 years as highly regarded association of engineers, bringing together professionals with over five years college studies from 43 universities with technical faculties in Chile. The most important economic activities in Chile are mining, forestry, pulp & paper, aquaculture and fishing, and tourism. However, Chile is a country distant from important global markets, with small inner market of 17 million inhabitants; almost without mayor own machine-manufacturing industry. Therefore, all equipment and machinery, which incorporates the latest technologies, are imported from manufacturers worldwide. Workers, maintenance personnel, service, logistics, etc., must constantly assimilate the latest technical developments.

This activity needs a perfect approach to the CAN network and the digital systems of control and communication of equipment. Obviously, this fact allows national developments to meet people’s needs, such as in passenger transportations, telecommunications, road and naval transportation, for aquaculture operations, identifying people, and many other applications. Due to the high level of technical and professional education in Chile, many of these activities can be developed locally.

CAN has not yet acquired the relevance it deserves, said the company. Colegio de Ingenieros de Chile took the initiative to host the first CAN seminar in Chile. The purpose was to reorient the professional activity and motivate as well as to support local technological developments of digital systems.

Dr. Hector Kaschel, professor at the University of Santiago de Chile and former professional at Nixdorf Paderborn in Germany was in charge of organizing and lecturing at the seminar.
