Urban mobility with CAN

Heinzmann (Germany) has introduced the Cargo Power RN 111 motor. It was developed for professional and commercial applications, as well as for high-end and premium applications.

The logistics of the 'last mile' in urban centres is moving away from motor vehicles with traditional combustion engines and taking great strides towards two-wheel and three-wheel vehicles with e-drives. Electrically assisted transport and cargo bikes used in industrial, commercial, and service companies are increasingly being used where heavy loads have to be transported directly to the customer.

At last year's Eurobike trade fair in Friedrichshafen (Germany), Heinzmann presented its developed Cargo Power motor RN 111. This motor was developed specifically for professional and commercial applications, as well as for high-end and premium applications. The motor has a tremendous torque of up to 100 Nm on the drive wheel (not on the pedal crank as with mid-mounted motors) and is available with nominal speeds of 190 rotations per minute to 380 rotations per minute. 25 km/h can therefore be achieved with a wheel diameter of 20 inch to 28 inch. And of course, 45 km/h is also possible for speed bikes. This torque and power density is achieved with a planetary gear, combined with oil lubrication and oil cooling. The control, display, and battery are coordinated specifically with the powerful drive. The connection of the battery and the display takes place via CAN.

According to the company, the product is a compact and light-weight motor in its performance class and therefore fits in any bike type. Its design enables installation in standard forks or standard drop-outs. It is available as a rear-wheel and front-wheel version, as well as for one-sided mounting.
