Positioning systems from Halstrup-Walcher (Germany) are drives with an integrated motor, gearbox, and absolute encoder. Units are available with torques up to 25 Nm and they come in housings rated up to IP68. They provide a range of communication interfaces including CANopen and Devicenet. In order to satisfy North American customers, the supplier has submitted its products for NRTL certification in compliance with UL standards. The electric drives have now been certified for the US and Canadian markets as meeting UL, CSA, and ANSI testing standards. Testing and certification requirements are especially important for electrical products and machines, which must bear a testing seal indicating that the equipment has been inspected (during workplace audits, etc.).

The complex approval process in the US for machine modules or entire machine lines is easier if relevant individual devices of the system have already been tested for compliance with UL/CSA/ANSI standards and have NRTL certification. European EN or IEC inspections testing are insufficient on their own and are not recognized. The NRTL certificate is recognized by OSHA (US) and SCC (Canada).

TÜV Süd inspected the positioning systems for electrical and mechanical safety, a process that also encompasses the production facilities in Kirchzarten, Germany. Beginning in May 2017, the positioning systems will all be labeled with the NRTL seal. This logo certifies conformity with national testing standards on the US and Canadian markets, which is why the seal will also be accompanied by the two country codes going forward.

Recently, the supplier has released its on-line product configurators for positioning systems, drive technology, and pressure measuring products. They replace the old product finder. The user can find fitting products step-by-step. The configurators provide some further information with each step, which makes the configuration easier. In some steps, the choice by picture illustrates the several options. On the configuration results site you can compare the products or make changes, print your results and start an inquiry.

Halstrup-Walcher has also established an Italian subsidiary. The company’s Italian customers will continue to receive support from long-standing representative FISME. The subsidiary will further enhance support for its representatives and customers in Italy. “Dario Branchi, our Managing Director, is highly experienced in the sector and will generate new sales as well as supporting existing customers,” said Christian Sura, Managing Director for Sales at Halstrup-Walcher. The founding of the new sales subsidiary is part the company’s international strategy. It will enable the company to grow its sales steadily and systematically in Italy.
