Drive operates at speeds up to 1500 min-1

The PSD series by Halstrup-Walcher not only incorporates a stepper motor but all the relevant sub-systems such as control, CANopen interfaces, and incremental or absolute measurement system.

At the Hannover Messe 2018 (hall 5, stand H05), the product family will be presented with CANopen connectivity. The drives for automatic format changeover have a compact design and operate at speeds of up to 1500 min-1. This is suitable when machine axles have to be adjusted frequently for small batch sizes. The machine can be adjusted to a different format almost instantaneously. In the version of the direct drive with a solid circular shaft, the motors act as the mounting flange. For optimum integration into the machine, the drives can also be supplied optionally with a hollow shaft attachment. This allows them to be mounted directly on the spindle without a coupling.

For higher torques a gearbox is also used in the housing – enabling the drive to achieve torques of up to 10 Nm. The design is flexible with a rotating housing and variable connector alignment. It can be integrated into the machine without angle plugs. The drives also provide optionally a 32‑bit incremental measurement system. No battery is required. The device is addressed using rotary switches. A power feedback circuit protects the internal electronics against generator operation and manual turning. Condition monitoring for the systems supports predictive maintenance of the machine.
