HVAC control via CANopen or J1939

Eberspaecher Kalori (France) presented at Bauma 2019 the Kanbox, a heating, ventilation, and air‑conditioning (HVAC) system. It can be connected to the vehicle’s display.

The Kanbox can control the entire HVAC system including compressor, condenser, temperature sensors, pressurization, and up to four actuators. The IP66‑rated product is protected against surges and reverse-polarity. It operates from 9 V up to 36 V. The integrated CAN interface supports CANopen as well as J1939 communication. The operating temperature range is from -30 °C to +85 °C. The HVAC system can be connected via CAN to the vehicle’s dashboard, which avoids a separate display to control the air-conditioning.

End of last year, Eberspaecher (Germany) acquired Kalori located in Lyon. The French company is specialized in HVAC systems for commercial road and off‑road vehicles. Through the acquisition, Eberspaecher is boosting its strategic focus on vehicle climate control for special‑purpose markets. With a staff of some 150 employees, Kalori generated a revenue of about 22 million euros.
