The Pcomnet A5 from F&S Elektronik Systeme is a single board computer with a Freescale Vybrid CPU. The product is based on a base board with a plugged-on PicocomA5.

THE BASE BOARD HAS A SIZE of 80 mm x 50 mm and a power supply via a Single Supply of 5 V. A PCAP (projected capacitive touch) panel controller can be connected via a J2 plug connector. I2C and power supply for the controller are on the plug connector. Two Ethernet interfaces are available. Interfaces like CAN, EIA-232, and EIA-485 are on pin headers with a grid dimension of 2,54 mm. These can be used directly. Additional functions can be realized via GPIOs, I2C, and SPI. Two USB hosts are also on the pin header. For using a USB host standard connector, one can use a simple cable adapter. The USB device interface is on a regular connector.

The RGB display interface is available on a 40 pole film cable socket. The assignment allows a direct connection of all EDT displays with unified interfaces (3,5 inch up to 7 inch). The four signals for displays with resistive touch panel are available as well. To connect displays with a PCAP touch panel, an additional adapter is needed. The Picocom A5 with Freescale Vybrid Cortex-A5 CPU is plugged into the module and offers 256 MiB RAM and 128 MiB Flash.

The operating systems Windows Embedded Compact 2013 and Linux (Buildroot) are customized to suit the module. Further operating system versions are available on the company’s website. A bootloader as well as kernel/image are pre-installed.
