Currently, the CAN host controller is being certified by TÜV in conformity with EN ISO 13849-1 PL d and EN/IEC 62061 SIL 2. Thus, it corresponds to the requirements of the Machine Directive 2006/42/EC. The unit is robust and shock-proofed. This makes it suitable for mobile machines, such as lifting platforms, offshore cranes, telescopic cranes, container bridges, lattice boom cranes or truck loading cranes, and for use in industrial fields.

When it is dusty, slushy or dirty, the user can still rely on the control unit. The PLC is available in two protection classes IP20 and IP66/67. The IP20-rated housing for installation in switch cabinets ensures an temperature range from -40°C to +70°C. The IP66/67-rated version withstands the direct influence of dirt, moisture, and water.

The modular design allows growing with increasing requirements: Up to 300 I/O ports can be combined. The self-diagnosis and monitoring functions on the CPU board and the individual I/O cards have been designed to recognize faults immediately, and to return the machine to safe condition. Every I/O cell has an autonomous safety system consisting of its own processor and separate watchdog so that when a fault is recognized every cell is switched off immediately.

The safe programming can be realized by means of the Codesys implementation. It supports several IEC 61131-3 languages (FUP, KOP, ST, AWL) or C/C++. Up to 2-GiB flash storage space is available for program and data storage. A battery-buffered storage area (RAM) ensures safe data permanently.

The basic versions can be extended by up to six safe CAN interfaces. Apart from the flexibility of the I/O configuration in the basic housing, the certified extension by other I/O cells is possible. Apart from the standard interfaces, CAN and Ethernet, other communication interfaces, such as CANopen Safety, J1939, TCP/IP and TCP/UDP, are available on request. The integrated USB interface offers extensive possibilities, such as software/ data updates or the readout of application data (data logger) via USB stick.
