The IEC 61131-3 programmable control unit by the 30-years old Smart in Ovation (Germany) has been designed for small and medium-sized applications.
The Smartcontrol 630 programmable device is according to the manufacturer suited for food production and climate control. This includes controlling of boiling, baking, smoking, maturing, drying, and air-conditioning. The company has some reputation in the related machine and plant building industry. The CANopen connectable unit provides also an Ethernet port to communicate to the provider’s Touch 7 panel.
Based on Linux the host controller implements the Codesys run-time system. The programming environment is PC-based. The host controller is intended for retrofit applications and part of the modular control family. It complies with 230-V technology and provides slots for local extension modules. There are digital input and relay modules as well as generic 0-mA-to-20-mA I/O units. Other modules feature PT100 or thermo-element inputs. Via the CANopen interface module it is possible to connect remote CANopen modules.
