Non-safety and safety controller in one unit

Ifm Electronic has developed a host controller with two independent 32-bit PLCs. One of them is certified as safety controller (SIL-2 / Pl-d) with CANopen safety connectivity.

Modern commercial vehicles and mobile machines need powerful control electronics to process the high number of input and output signals. That is why this third-generation host controller was developed. Both PLCs have scalable I/O allocations for non-safety and safety applications. Both PLCs can communicate with each other.

In addition to its multifunctional inputs and outputs with diagnostic capabilities, the unit features four CAN interfaces and two Ethernet ports. The CAN interfaces support all important network protocols such as CANopen, CANopen safety, and J1939, as well as the transparent and preprocessed data exchange. The control functions are integrated into the application program due to the Codesys runtime system and the Codesys programming (version 3.5) environment. All inputs and outputs can also be configured as safe channels, if required. Furthermore the coded central plug suitable for mobile use is on the compact metal housing. The triple-core controllers have a 6-MiB application memory.
