SBC: No need for an external MCU

The RainboW-G16M-µMXM SOM single board computer from iWave (India) is based on the Freescale Vybrid VF6xx/VF5xx family. It combines the ARM Cortex-A5 and Cortex-M4 cores enabling the elimination of an external MCU especially in real-time control applications.

THE µMXM SOM PROVIDES TWO CAN PORTS, 256 MiB of on-board DDR3 RAM (expandable up to 1 GiB), and 256 MiB of NAND flash memory (expandable up to 2 GiB). The module brings all the Vybrid peripheral interfaces to a 314-pin MXM edge connector. Furthermore, the Vybrid controllers offer features like on-chip encryption, secure boot, anti-tamper and anti-cloning. Applications in sensitive or critical infrastructures can thus be protected from any unauthorized access.

The single board computer offers asymmetric multi-processing. A 10/100 Ethernet port, a 24 bpp RGB LCD interface, a USB 2.0 host port, a USB 2.0 OTG port, four 12-bit ADC channels and two 12-bit DAC channels are examples of its peripheral set. The product can be used in various applications, for example industrial process controls, smart grid, medical/healthcare devices, smart connected devices and battery-operated handheld devices. The single board computer measures 85 mm x 40 mm and features a power consumption of 0,5 A at 5 V. It can be operated in a temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C and supports the Linux 3.0.15 operating system.
