Reference design for mobile machinery ECUs

SYS TEC (Germany) has introduced at the IAS exhibition in China design packages for host controllers and controllers with integrated HMI functionality. They are intended for individual electronic control unit designs in mobile machine applications.

THE MBC-1784 PLATTFORM OF HOST CONTROLLER and the HMI-3570 controller with HMI functionality are reference designs. “We have them developed specifically for the Chinese construction machine manufacturers,” said Armin von Collrepp from Sys Tec. The company develops customized products since 20 years. According to the supplier, it is possible to save about 40 to 30 percent of development costs compared with a from-the-scratch design.

Both products come with integrated CANopen protocol stacks, which provide NMT master and configuration manager functionality. The CANopen software complies with CiA 301 and CiA 302. The design packages include ECU prototypes as well as the hardware and software design material in source format including the necessary project files, the component libraries, and software needed for application development on the target platforms. They are tested to meet the EMI requirements as well as temperature and mechanical stress tests typically used in the mobile machinery business.

The MBC-1784 is based on the Tricore TC1793 or TC1784 micro-controller from Infineon (Germany). The provided reference software includes a C/C++ programming environment and an IEC 61131-3 runtime kernel plus a pre-integrated runtime environment. The PLC runtime environment comes with a seamlessly integrated CANopen Manager. It supports automatic CANopen NMT slave node configuration. In addition, the CANopen software allows linking two IEC 61131-3 devices via CANopen network variables. It also handles the network management transparently from the IEC 61131-3 user application. Additional CAN layer-2 function blocks allow for implementation of proprietary CAN higher-layer protocols in IEC 61131-3 languages.

The HMI-3570 is a reference design for display controllers with CANopen NMT master functionality. The entire hardware and software design based on a Freescale ARM-11 micro-controller is provided by means of descriptions in source-level format. According to the supplier customers can instantaneously start working with the design material to create own product solutions: “The user may want to adapt the printed circuit board to fit in an own enclosure or incorporate specific additional functions into the design.” Besides the hardware design material, the company delivers a Linux board support package and the necessary C/C++ software development environment and an IEC 61131-3 runtime system. The provided CANopen protocol stack complies with CiA 301 and CiA 302.
