CAN bridges for wireless connection of two CAN networks

ESD Electronics has upgraded the wireless bridge CAN-CBX-AIR/2. At the SPS IPC Drives 2017 fair in Nuremberg (Germany) they exhibit it.

The bridges fulfill requirements in accordance to ETSI EN 300 328 V.2.0.20 (RED) standard. Like the former version the CAN-CBX-AIR/3 module works with a carrier frequency of 2,4 GHz in the ISM band. The transmission distance is up to 200 m line-of-sight (LoS). Compared to WLAN or Bluetooth it offers reduction of connection setup time and latency of the CAN transmission, said the company.

The bridge supports data exchange between CAN networks even with two different bitrates. This can be used e.g. to get access to CAN modules installed at turning machine parts via a point-to-point connection. USB is used to configure the bridge. But beside this - CAN-CBX-AIR/3 enables a PC to communicate CAN data via USB to a remote CAN-CBX-AIR/3 for e.g. service and maintenance.

The bitrate is set by a rotary switch at the module. Other functions can be configured via the integrated USB interface and the supplied Windows software. These software can be used for CAN monitoring, too. Four LEDs show the operating status of the wireless connection and the CAN communication.
