The IP core CAN2TSN from Cast provides integration of up to seven Classical CAN or CAN FD networks with an Ethernet network in automotive and industrial systems.
Semiconductor intellectual property (IP) provider Cast has announced a CAN to TSN Ethernet IP core. This gives automotive and industrial system designers a way to link Classical CAN and CAN FD networks or devices with a time-sensitive Ethernet network.
The company believes the CAN2TSN is among the first—and perhaps the only—available silicon IP solution for the growing challenge of integrating conventional and new networks in evolving, data-driven automotive, and industrial systems. Developed by Cast using Cast IP and CAN and TSN cores sourced from partner Fraunhofer IPMS, the CAN2TSNCAN-to-TSN Ethernet gateway/bridge provides bridging of up to seven independent Classical CAN or CAN FD ports to a single TSN Ethernet port. It also features TSN timing synchronization of under 5 µs and TSN traffic shaping as well as low-latency CAN to TSN routing of under 30 µs for both directions.
The product also enables integration, with industry-standard interfaces to the system, Ethernet PHY, and CAN transceivers. Custom hardware stacks running most protocols are supported.
The CAN2TSN gateway IP core is shipping now. A complete CAN2TSN reference design board is also available. The CAN2TSN CAN-to-TSN Ethernet gateway/bridge is part of the company’s Automotive Interfaces IP suite, which also includes CAN, TSN, Sent, and LIN IP cores.
