Opto 22 (USA) has developed the Snap-SCM-CAN2B module for its PAC system (programmable automation controller). It provides a CAN interface supporting 29-bit CAN identifier and implements different J1939-based protocols such as SAE J1939, ISO 11783 (Isobus) or IEC 61162-3 (Nema 2000).
THE PRODUCT FAMILY INCLUDES PACs and Ethernet-based I/O devices. The SNAP-SCM-CAN2B has one input for receiving data from devices on a CAN network; this module does not transmit. Like all I/O modules, the CAN module is optically isolated from the equipment and devices it connects to, as well as from other modules on a shared I/O rack.
To use the CAN module in a control application, the CAN integration kit provides an example strategy to enable a PAC system equipped with one or more CAN modules to receive data from electronic control units on a CAN protocol network. The kit can be downloaded at no cost from the provider’s website. The module with J1939 software is available at a list price of US-$ 295.00 USD each.
Opto 22 develops and manufactures hardware and software for applications involving industrial automation and control, energy management, remote monitoring, and data acquisition. The Californian company was founded in 1974 and is privately held.
