Optional CANopen interface available

Megatron’s 826 joystick comes with a metal mechanism, separately-configurable axes, and output options. For use in mobile machines or special applications, the joystick can be equipped with a CANopen interface.

The joystick is suitable for applications in heavy industry, special machine construction, and the offshore sector. The regular version of the product, is a potentiometer joystick. The company explained, that the interface provides flexibility in operating voltage, low power consumption and makes the joystick insensitive to electromagnetic interference and X-ray or gamma radiation.

The joystick is located in the size range between hand and finger joysticks. For operating concepts with finger control, a ball knob and a conical knob are available. For applications with manual operation, the company supplies the joystick with a handle that can optionally be equipped with a pushbutton. Sealing above the panel is possible up to IP65 if the optional mounting plate is also ordered. The joystick knobs are made of synthetic resin and the shaft is made of stainless steel. Including the rubber cover, these materials above the panel are resistant to salt water. In addition, the joysticks of the 826 series also offer different axis options: The user can choose between spring return and friction brake for the X and Y axis.

There are also various options for the sensor technology. For example, Megatron supplies the series with contactless Hall sensors on request, which have either a voltage or a current output with a supply voltage of 5 V or 24 V (with converter). In this way, applications in industry and shipping can also be served where a current interface is often required.

For use in mobile machines or special applications, the joystick can also be equipped with electronics for USB and a CANopen interface. The board for the CANopen interface is attached to the joystick housing. There is no IP protection for the circuit board. The potentiometers are supplied with voltage by the CANopen board. CAN is not galvanically isolated. Supply voltage is +24 VDC, and available functions: four transmit and four receive PDOs, dynamic PDO mapping, variable PDO identifiers, node guarding, lifeguarding and heartbeat, emergency messages. The CANopen interface complies to CiA 301 and CiA 401.

The company explained, the joysticks can be modified according to the customer's wishes - for example, by cable assembly or by creating customer-specific knobs.
