Touch panels and IPCs for industrial applications

The industrial electronics manufacturer Syslogic (Switzerland) introduced the 10-inch to 17-inch PCT (projected capacitive touch) panels as well as Compact 41 and RPC (rugged PC) Compact 71 industrial computers. The devices with a modular design include CAN, USB, Ethernet and other interfaces.

PCT PANELS ENABLE INTUITIVE OPERATION USING resistive touch screens technology. The wear-free, scratchproof touch screen features a flat front face without edges that could collect dirt. This and the availability of stainless steel housing variants allow using the panels in the food-processing industry. Non-stop (24/7) operation at temperatures from -25 °C to +65 °C is possible. The PCT PCs are also available as an IP68-rated open frame version suited for outdoor applications such as e.g. interactive information terminals. Besides the PCT line, the company offers resistive touch and infrared touch panels with CAN-connectivity. Raphael Binder, Product Manager at Syslogic said:
"There’s hardly any other manufacturer who can offer infrared touch panels as well as resistive and projective capacitive touch screen solutions. Thanks to our comprehensive expertise, we can offer the right touch screen solution for virtually any industrial application."

The RPC (Rugged PC) Compact 71 industrial computers are dedicated for harsh environments. The heart of the RPC is a scalable Queens Bay platform from Intel with performances of 600 MHz, 1 GHz, 1,3 GHz or 1,6 GHz. 1-GiB (or 2-GiB) DDR2 RAM is supported. The device comes with two ESD-protected, isolated CAN interfaces. Further, Ethernet, USB, EIA-232, EIA-485, LVDS and SD interfaces are available. The used ten M12 interfacing connectors may be equipped individually with different interfaces as well.
The computer features a real-time clock (RTC), which is supplied by a maintenance-free gold cap solution. The PC has no moving parts and is suitable for the non-stop operation within the temperature range of -40 °C up to +65 °C. The hardened, anodized aluminum IP67-protected housing resists to dust, water and chemicals and withstands physical impacts, shocks or vibrations. The RPC is designed for various industries such as construction machines according to EN 13309 or for railway according to EN 50155.

The Compact 41 M (extensible by a plug-in card) and Compact 41 S (single-board) IPCs embed the Vortex86DX2 processor. Included is a monitoring system with power management (defined on and off switching), watchdog function (automatic restart after failure) and temperature monitoring (-40 °C up to +65 °C). The IPCs with CAN, USB, EIA-232 and EIA-485 ports may be extended by up to three Ethernet interfaces and are expandable by WLAN, GPS, GSM as well as Bluetooth-modules.
These may be shipped with such embedded operating systems as Windows Embedded 7, Windows Compact 7 or Linux. The 25-years company offers the MySyslogic concept, whereby a customized solution using suitable touch-technologies, panel sizes and PCs may be created.
