Supporting more PDOs

HMS has introduced the Compactcom 40 series of CANopen modules. It can be connected via SPI, 8/16-bit parallel port, or I/O registers to automation devices.

The successor of the Compactcom 30 series is based on the company’s NP40 multi-protocol controller. The ARM Cortex-M3 processor provides CAN connectivity and runs the CANopen protocol stack. It supports up to 64 TPDOs and up to 64 RPDOs. This allows to transmit up to 512 byte of process data and to receive 512 byte of process data.

The CANopen interface conforms with CiA 301 version 4.2. It supports automatic bit-rate detection and Layer Setting Services (CiA 305). The implemented protocol stack features segmented SDOs, but no SDO block transfer. Heartbeat functionality is provided, but no node guarding, which is not recommended by CiA for new designs. EMCY messages are supported. Mandatory software signatures prevent unauthorized software to be downloaded to the module. Furthermore, encryption is used to prevent illicit copying.

The product comes in an IP20-rated housing. It measures 52 mm x 50 mm x 22 mm. The interface module is also available without enclosure.
