The CC10C Rugged COM Express (RCE) module is the first product from MEN (Germany) in the low-power COM area using ARM processor technology: it is based on the VITA 59 Rugged COM Express and equipped with the ARM i.MX 6.
FREESCALE'S (USA) ARM i.MX 6 PROCESSOR with a Cortex-A9 architecture forms the core of the module. Different families of the i.MX 6 series (6Solo, 6DualLite, 6Dual and 6Quad) can be selected. Since the i.MX 6 provides not only scalable CPU performance, but also a range of on-chip controllers and interfaces – amongst them CAN or interfaces for multimedia applications such as LVDS, DVI, audio and a camera connection –, the module offers I/O flexibility. If further I/Os exceeding the multiple standard functions are needed, the integrated FPGA with 140 available pins offers additional options for customization. The selection of memory comprises up to 4 GiB DDR3 RAM, a soldered eMMC and 3-Gbit SATA for external mass storage.
The module is enclosed in a conduction-cooled cover and frame with a thermal connection to the module's PCB (printed circuit board). Apart from securing an temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C, this aluminum frame also makes the module EMC (electric magnetic compatibility) tight, shock and vibration resistant and protected against dust, humidity or chemicals. The module complies with the basic dimensions of the COM Express "Compact" form factor and uses a type 6 pin-out. By being embedded in the aluminum frame specified by VITA 59, the module grows to 105 mm x 105 mm. The module is also available without a frame and in the PICMG COM.0 dimensions of 95 mm x 95 mm, and is then called CC10.
