CANopen modules with analog or digital ports

ICP DAS (Taiwan) provides CANopen I/O devices. They come with ESD (electronic data sheet) files. The product portfolio includes the CAN-2019C module featuring 10 analog inputs.

The CAN-2019C is a 10-channel analog input CANopen NMT slave module with voltage and current input types. It provides accurate thermocouple measurement and automatically cold-junction compensation for each channel. The CANopen device complies with CiA 301 version 4.2.0 and CiA 401 version 2.1. The provider has tested successfully the product with the CiA CANopen Conformance test tool.

In addition, the US branch of ICP DAS has launched the CAN-8823 digital I/O module coming with 8 I/O ports. It features 10 configurable Process Data Objects (PDO). The PDOs support asynchronous transmission as well as cyclic and acyclic (SYNC) scheduling. Other CANopen features include EMCY, TIME, and Heartbeat as well as Node guarding. Of course, the mandatory NMT and SDO functions are supported, too. The product comes with a free utility for dynamic creation of EDS files compliant to CiA 306.

CANopen NMT master devices use these files to configure the I/O modules. The provider has tested them with several CANopen host controllers including its controllers (Piso-CPM100U PCI board and I-8123W master module). All CANopen products support the specified CAN bit-rates up to 1 Mbit/s.

Support also for CiA 402

The CANopen host controllers by ICP DAS are also able to manage motion controllers compliant to CiA 402 version 2.1. The offered CANopen motion library provides various motion control functions such as position control, velocity control, toque control, synchronous action, interpolation mode, etc. In addition to making the management of the CANopen motors easy, it reduces the wire connection between the host controller and the electrical actuators, and provides rapid trouble shooting functions. The users are able to link to multiple CANopen motors to achieve multi-axis motion control by one host controller. When performing the control of motors, the CANopen remote I/O modules still can be accessed at the same time. The motion control products by Delta, Festo, Sanmotion, and Schneider Electric have been integrated successfully according to the Taiwanese manufacturer. In order to simplify the system integration, the company provides the CANopen Moto API manual.

Typical applications include a corrugated carton-cutting machine and a solar tracking system. The carton-cutting machine is characterized by compact structure, fine workman ship, big pressure, and high precision operation. With high degree of automation, this model can do integrative process of auto-feeding, cutting, and automatic unloading. 31 CANopen motors control the cutting knives and rollers. The WP-8441 and I-8123W play the role of the CANopen master to control all the motors simultaneously.

Solar tracking system is a distribute device for orienting a solar panel or concentrating a solar reflector or lens towards the sun. The sun's position in the sky varies both with the seasons and time of day as the sun moves across the sky. The solar energy intercepted by the solar panels during the course of the day is not maximized if the position of the panel is always static. Dynamically oriented solar panels can track the sun throughout each day to greatly enhance energy collection. There are more than 100 motors in that system. The tracker has built-in one or two axis motors. The PC and Piso-CPM100 control parts of the solar panels. Additionally, the system comprises different I/O modules from ICP DAS, e.g. CAN-8123, CAN-8423, CAN-8823, and CAN-2000C.
