The MLG-2 by Sick (Germany) is a sensor for detecting presence, checking for projections, and measuring the height of load-carriers. The light grid provides CANopen connectivity according to CiA 301.
According to the manufacturer, the light grid is able detect even small and fast moving objects. The reaction time is smaller than 9 ms. The IP65/67-rated products are based on a specifically developed ASIC. The configurable device can be adapted to the application requirements regarding beam grid, monitored height, range, and communication interfaces. The CAN interface supports the CANopen protocol and implements manufacturer-specific process data. Via CANopen the host controller receives the measured values and the status of the light grid.
The maximum height is 3200 mm and the maximum number of beams is 240. Objects with a minimum size of 2 mm can be detected due to the crossbeam function with beam distances of 5 mm, 10 mm, and 25 mm to 50 mm. Possible applications include intra-logistics in machine tools, in traffic systems (separating and classifying vehicles), in automotive construction, in wood-processing industry, or in robotics.
The Sopas parameterization software supports the user integrating the sensor system into the application. The provided cloning functionality saves time during the identical parameterization of several light grids or in case of a replacement.
