Mining with CANopen

Kuebler’s (Germany) incremental Sendix Atex 7000 encoders with Atex/IECEx – M2 certification are suitable for explosive atmospheres. Their diameter of 70 mm allows mounting where space is tight.

THE ENCODERS COME IN AN EXPLOSION-PROOF ENCLOSURE, which is made of sea water-resistant aluminum. Their Atex with EC type examination certificate and IECEx with Certificate of Conformity mean they are suitable for mining environments. They have IP67 protection level. The encoders are shock (EN 60068-2-27) and vibration (EN 60068-2-6) resistant, reduce installation depth, and come with a compact cable outlet. Possible applications include explosive industries, where high plant availability and the best protection possible for men and for the environment have highest priority. The encoders can also be operated in marine environments, as the housing and flange is manufactured from stainless steel.

The encoders come with CAN according to ISO 11898, CANopen CiA 406 v 3.2, manufacturer-specific add-ons, and a bit-rate of 10 kbit/s to 1000 kbit/s (software configurable). With the CANopen encoder profile CiA 406, the following parameters can be programmed: event mode, variable PDO mapping of position, speed, acceleration, and working area status. Extended failure management for position sensing with integrated temperature control is also possible. Optionally, 32 CAMs are programmable.

The Sendix 7158 absolute singleturn encoder comes with a CANopen interface and optical sensor technology. It operates with a resolution of up to 16 bits and are available with axial and radial cable outlets.

The Sendix 7168 absolute multiturn encoder also has a CANopen interface and optical sensor technology. It operates with a resolution for up to 28 bits, and is also available with axial and radial cable outlets.
