SBG System’s Ellipse inertial sensors provide orientation and position data in 45 g. They let the user connect their own GPS or use the internal one, connect an odometer, and receive differential GPS corrections.
ELLIPSE IS COMPOSED OF A CALIBRATED MEMS-based inertial measurement unit, integrating three gyroscopes, three accelerometers, and three magnetometers. Depending on the model, the devices come with a GPS-Glonass-Beidou receiver, odometer inputs, and a pressure sensor. Weighting from 45 g, the sensors are flexible: The A model provides 3D orientation and heave. For navigation, it can be connected to a GPS with the E model. The N model comes with internal GPS. A little larger, the D model integrates a survey-grade L1/L2 GNSS receiver with two antennas for heading and position accuracy. All models come with 0,2° rms roll and pitch, 0,2° to 1° rms heading, 10 cm auto-adaptive heave, and 200 Hz output rate. All models come with a CAN interface with up to 1 Mbit/s. Other serial interfaces are EIA-232, EIA-422, and USB.
“We have selected state-of-the-art MEMS sensors, especially very low noise gyroscopes that greatly enhance Ellipse performance. We integrated cutting-edge GNSS receiver while keeping a small size,” declares Alexis Guinamard SBG Systems.
The series comes with features such as FIR and anti-rejection filtering, an IP68 enclosure, a high output rate, RTK corrections, and automatic alignment. The sensors have a sensing range of 360° in all axes, without any mounting limitations. FIR filters coupled with Coning & Sculling integrals provide vibration rejection, while an extended Kalman filter fuses inertial data with GNSS, or other aiding information. An anti-jamming technology is also used to reject bad or false GPS measurements. Every sensor is tested and calibrated from -40 °C to 85 °C for performance in all conditions. The magnetic calibration tool allows soft and hard magnetic disturbances compensation. A library is provided for integration into applications.
Motion profiles allow the user to tune their sensor to application constraints. After a motion profile is selected, parameters automatically adjust to the Kalman Filter, vibration level, dynamics, magnetic disturbance immunity, etc.
