Integrates six instruments

The MDO3000 Mixed Domain Oscilloscope from Tektronix (worldwide) features six integrated instruments, including a spectrum analyzer, arbitrary function generator, logic analyzer, protocol analyzer, and digital voltometer/counter.

INSTRUMENTS, ANALYSIS FUNCTIONS, AND UPGRADE BANDWIDTH can be added as design challenges evolve, for example automotive serial triggering and analysis modules for CAN and LIN. All in all the optional protocol analyzer offers serial bus support for CAN, I2C, SPI, EIA-232/422/485/UART, USB 2.0, LIN, FlexRay, MIL-STD-1553, and audio standards.

Parallel buses and common serial buses can be debugged with automated trigger, decode and search. The search button allows the user to automatically search through acquisitions looking for user-defined events. All occurrences of the event are highlighted with search marks and are navigated to, using the front-panel buttons. Search types include edge, pulse width/glitch, timeout, runt, logic, setup and hold, rise/fall time, parallel bus, and CAN, as well as other bus content.

A search mark table provides a tabular view of the events found during the automated search. Each event is shown with a time stamp, making timing measurements between events easy. The trigger system offers trigger on start of frame, frame type (data, remote, error, overload), identifier (standard or extended), data, identifier and data, end of frame, missing ACK, or bit stuffing error on CAN signals up to 1 Mbit/s. In addition to seeing decoded packet data on the bus waveform itself, you can view all captured packets in a tabular view much like you would see in a software listing. Packets are time stamped and listed consecutively with columns for each component (Address, Data, etc.). The event table data can be saved in .csv format.

The analyzer comes as a 2- or 4-analog-channel model, with 1 GHz, 500 MHz, 350 MHz, 200 MHz, or 100 MHz bandwidth. Lower bandwidths can be upgraded later on up to 1 GHz. The oscilloscope offers up to 5 GS/s sample rate. Every model comes with an integrated spectrum analyzer, enabling the user to analyze RF signals up to the rated bandwidth of the scope. The analyzer normally offers 9 kHz bandwidth, but the MDO3SA model extends the spectrum analyzer frequency coverage to 3 GHz.

With Wave Inspector Navigation, dedicated front panel controls enable easy zoom and navigation. Automated search capability finds and marks every occurrence of user specified events. The arbitrary function generator enables closed loop testing by simulating sensors or unfinished system blocks.
Real signals can be captured and replicated as arbitrary waveforms up to 128k points long. It offers 13 predefined waveform types, 50 MHz waveform generation, and an arbitrary generator sample rate of 250 MS/s. The integrated, upgradable logic analyzer enables the debugging of digital portions of embedded designs. It features 16 digital channels.

The integrated digital voltmeter and frequency counter comes free with product registration and enables measurements of DC voltage, AC+DC RMS, AC RMS and frequency and 5-digit frequency measurements. Upgrades are available to analog bandwidth, spectrum analyzer frequency range, arbitrary function generator, digital channels (MSO), serial trigger and analysis packages, and more. The device has a depth of 147 mm and weighs 4,2 kg.
