THE THIRD EDITION OF THE FMS (Fleet Management System) specifications defines new signals, messages, and telltales. The FMS higher-layer protocol is based on J1939. It is developed and maintained by a consortium of truck OEMs and suppliers. The PCAN-FMS Simulator now completely uses the value ranges that are defined in the specifications. For example, in manual simulations, values can be specified that do occur in reality but with low probability.

The FMS protocols and Bus-FMS provide a manufacturer-independent interface for reading vehicle-specific CAN data on heavy-duty commercial vehicles and busses. The growing support of leading commercial vehicle and bus manufacturers allows cross-market telematics applications to be implemented. For these types of developments, the PCAN-FMS simulator application provides the simulation of both specifications in a single software application with a graphical user interface.
