Safety kit for ECU development

Texas Instruments (USA) and Hitex (Germany) have jointly introduced the SafeTI Hitex Safety Kit. The evaluation board comprises TI’s Hercules micro-controller and a PMIC chipset. A second MCU acts as test and control monitor unit.

THE SAFETY KIT ENABLES TO EVALUATE ECUs (electronic control unit) with functional safety compliant to ISO 26262 and IEC 61508. The on-board micro-controller provides CAN connectivity including a CAN transceiver chip. Other functions include an accelerometer, a temperature sensor, serial as well as USB ports, and a JTAG emulator plus a host/debug interface.

The product integrates key capabilities for fault-injection, application of diagnostics, reaction monitoring, and run-time profiling of fault diagnostic routines for the example system. It provides a demo-software, which can be used as a starting point for evaluating the Hercules MCU and the PMIC chipset. The second MCU is responsible for the communication with the GUI (graphical user interface).

Available is also an evaluation version of the Safertos real-time operating system (RTOS) from Wittenstein (Germany). The RTOS has been pre-certified by TÜV SÜD (Germany) for SIL-3 applications according to IEC 61508. The safety kit comes with the latest version of TI’s Eclipse-based Code Composer Studio.
